Why is Forklift Licence Renewal Important?
In Western Australia, holding a valid forklift licence is a legal requirement for anyone operating a forklift. The licence must be renewed every five years to ensure that operators are up to date with the latest safety regulations and operational procedures. Renewing your forklift licence is not only a legal obligation but also a critical step in maintaining your competency as an operator. Failing to renew your licence while operating a forklift could result in legal penalty and, more importantly, compromise workplace safety.
Understanding the Forklift Licence Renewal Process
Steps to Renew Your Forklift Licence
- Check Expiry Date: The first step in renewing your forklift licence is to check the expiry date on your current licence. We recommend starting the renewal process at least six weeks before your licence expires to avoid any lapses.
- Submit Supporting Documents: In some cases, you may be required to submit supporting documents, such as proof of identity or evidence of continued competency. Ensure all required documentation is submitted promptly to avoid delays.
- Pay the Renewal Fee: The renewal fee must be paid at the time of application. Payment can typically be made online using a credit or debit card.
- Receive Your New Licence: Once your application has been processed and approved, your renewed forklift licence will be sent to you. It is essential to keep this new licence on hand while operating a forklift.
- If the licence is not renewed within the 12 months post expiry period, the person must pay the relevant fee and state that the required skill levels have been maintained during the licence period.
Common Challenges in Licence Renewal and How We Help
The process of renewing your forklift licence can sometimes be complex, especially if you encounter issues such as expired licences or missing documentation. At Onsite Forklift Licencing, we are here to help you navigate these challenges.
Expired Licence
If your forklift licence has expired for more than 12 months, you will be required to enrol with a Registered Training Organisation to complete the forklift course if you wish to continue operating a forklift. This ensures that you are still competent in operating a forklift and are up to date with the latest safety regulations.
