Duty of care resources.

Regrettably, I often find that forklift drivers do not have the fundamental knowledge required to operate a forklift in a safe manner. Even the most basic concepts are unknown, such as lifting capacities (with or without attachments), load centre, confined space, and requirements for allowing a passenger to be on a forklift.
Duty of care is an ongoing task particularly where high staff turnover is a common feature of the workplace. For the sake of safety, Onsite Forklift Licencing have developed free resources to help employers demonstrate their duty of care with simple assessments that highlight shortfalls in driver knowledge and habits
One such resource is our forklift Tool Box Talk (TBT). This is a quick and easy method your drivers use on their mobile phone to answer 10 questions about forklift safety. It’s ideal to use during a tool box (or other) meeting on an ad hoc basis to help demonstrate your on going duty of care approach.
Other more in depth resources are available at our Driver Assessment website tab. Follow our blogs to receive updates on our resources development and other information.

Walkie stackers do not require a high risk work licence, as is the case for a forklift. It is prudent however to regularly train staff in the safe and efficient use of a walkie stacker to refresh their skills, to train new staff or as a Verification of Competence (VOC) for operators involved in a near miss or incident involving a walkie stacker.
A VOC helps to maintain a safe workplace while demonstrating a PCBU’s duty of care for safety in the work place.
