Difference between a forklift and a walkie stacker.

A walkie stacker, also known as a pedestrian stacker or walk-behind stacker, is a powered industrial truck designed for lifting and stacking pallets and other heavy loads. A forklift could be described in a similar way however, while the operator of a forklift occupies the vehicle and is seated in the machine,  a walkie stacker requires the operator to walk along with the machine using a control arm to operate the various functions.

Walkie stackers do not require a high risk work licence, as is the case for a forklift. It is prudent however to regularly train staff in the safe and efficient use of a walkie stacker to refresh their skills, to train new staff or as a Verification of Competence (VOC) for operators involved in a near miss or incident involving a walkie stacker.

A VOC helps to maintain a safe workplace while demonstrating a PCBU’s duty of care for safety in the work place.
